The Pathfinders Programme
From: RailwayChildrenIndia
Railway Children is an international development agency working in partnership with voluntary organisations, networks and initiatives that support children at risk in and around transport terminals. Our vision is a world of safety and opportunity for children at risk on the streets. Every day outreach workers from our 21 partners in 11 states of India spend time on the railway stations making contact with children who are in need of care and protection. Railway Children’s national training programme – Pathfinders aims to build a learning community of outreach practitioners to share the art and practice of street outreach. The objectives are to share stories, best practice across partners in India, innovate and continue to be pathways of possibility for change for the child. As of October 2007, we have trained more than 100 staff across the country on ‘the qualities of a pathfinder’ and ‘walking the four fold way – invoking the archetypes of healer, teachers, warrior and visionary’. We aim to continue this programme over the next two years.
